Thomas, Chief of Police Aggravated Robbery Arrest http://www.sycamorepd.com/default.asp?r=press&item=71#71 http://www.sycamorepd.com/default.asp?r=press&item=71#71 Tue, 22 Dec 2009 16:48:00 -0600 On December 22, 2009 at around 4:25 in the morning Sycamore Police were called to the BP Amoco at the intersection of DeKalb Ave and Bethany Rd. for a report of a man with a gun. Officers began a search of the area. Sycamore Police Officers spoke to a victim who said a man approached him as he sat in his vehicle. The suspect displayed a handgun and demanded money. The victim gave the suspect a small amount of money. Through the assistance of several neighborhood residents police were able to locate an apartment where the suspect had gone. Officers saw a suspect inside and also saw a handgun. Officers entered the apartment and arrested Jordan M. Utley, age 19, of DeKalb and also recovered a BB gun. (more...) The use of a parking boot was approved by the Sycamore City Council on April 21 in order to immobilize vehicles failing to pay parking fines. A vehicle becomes eligible for immobilization once the owner has at least five outstanding parking violations and a minimum of $250 in outstanding fines. As of June 2, the City has applied the parking boot to two vehicles. Both booted vehicle owners paid their fines within hours. Once payment was received by the City Sycamore officers immediately removed the parking boot. Responders found an apparently unoccupied 1994 Buick that was parked in front of the building engulfed in flames, and smoke was visible coming from the eaves of the two story brick building. Respondents generated high scores for the SPD in the public safety section as well as the police performance and presence section. More important than the high scores generated by this survey is the fact that scores in each of the aforementioned sections were higher than in the survey issued in 2002.
